The first WFGA tournament of the year 2019 took place in Salzburg-Austria from 26th to 28th of April on a groomed course and changing weather conditions. Whole 93 players braved the rain, the wind and the numerous obstacles to reach for the trophees, it was obvious that some competitors were lacking training/competition. For instance, the usually strong Swedish team that had had no opportunity to prepare as their home courses are still recovering from the long winter.

In the double women competition though, a Swedish- German partnership took the win and Yasmine Hollsten and Laura Rolli celebrated on Friday an impressive victory, finishing before two Czech teams, i.e. Lenka Dobesova/Hana Jiroutova and Jana Bernasova/Michala Reinova.

After the first round in the double men competition, the Czech Team Milan Masin/Tomas Neumann was leading with 3 kicks and finally ended second after a disappointing second round while the Danish Team composed of Anders Bollerup and Simon Pedersen took the lead. The locals Hans and Peter Klegraefe finished third.

In the women single category, Laura Rolli  immediately took the lead to win the competition after 4 rounds with 30 kicks less than her closest opponent. After a difficult first round, Julia von Bötticher played 3 very steady rounds to finish second while Caisa Edvinges struggled with her 4th round but finally saved a 2 kicks advantage towards her team mate Pernilla Nordgren to end up third.

Anders Bollerup confirmed his favourite status and won the single men competition playing an amazing 65 on the 3rd round. Thomas Kirchberger was uncertain to start a few weeks ago and finished second with a very courageous performance, despite his severe illness. Another local, Robert Brandner played steady rounds around par and finished  3rd.

We would like to thank the organizers and the numerous participants of this competition, especially the strong Czech (27 participants), German (27 participants) and Austrian (20) tams as well as our “Nordic” friends from Denmark and Sweden who made a very long trip to join us. A special mention also to the French team that presented 8 players among which the first French lady, Andreea Caruana to ever play a footballgolf competition!!!

We look forward seeing you at the next tournament from 24th to 26th of May on the spectacular course of Rumburk/Czech Republic.
